What is Politics?

What is Politics?

We all know and are well aware of this word but what is its true meaning and how does it involve us? To define politics in a literal sense I will use W. Lawrence Neuman’s definition, Professor of Political Sociology at University of Wisconsin. Politics is “a process by which social groups (i.e. classes, genders, races, and so forth) acquire, extend, apply, maintain, and struggle over power (2005:3). Power is a pervasive and barely visible force. It is a fundamental dimension in all human relations and social institutions (2005:3).

The reason for creating this blog is for the fact that I am a Sociology and have developed an interest in this new field called Political Sociology. My blogs are not facts and are not fully concrete but I will try to not bring in a biased, ill-informed solutions and information. But as a future political sociologist I will probe into thorny issues, ask tough questions, and reveal unpleasant truth and perhaps step into uneasy complicated issues.

Politics are a major concern for today’s nation due to the fact of recent elements that have struck our attention such as new Presidential election and candidates, immigration, war in Iraq, and 9/11. There are vast amounts of information provided it is my interest to weed out the cover up and display the unpleasant ‘truth’
