There is always a way!

“Together we stand”

There has always been a concern for the political engagement and participation of young people. In the 2001 generation of election there was a decline of young political voters. The Electoral Commission estimated the turnout rate for 18-24 year olds at 39% , down 27 % from 1997 elections. In order to understand why young people are withdrawing from conventional forms of political participation there is a need to investigate how young people themselves conceive of and experience the political (O’Toole: 2).

There are four elements that I agree with Therese O’Toole’s article, Political Literacy Cuts Both Ways: The Politics of Non-participating Young People. First theme that we might consider asking ourselves to better understand the younger generation is identity.

  • How do you identify yourself? (ethnicity )
  • Do you claim your nation’s nationality?
  • How do you feel about patriotism?
  • Are you Patriotic?

The second element is social and economic inequality.

· Are our younger generation at a lower economic and social gap?

· Is there limitations to this age range that differ from the other age groups?

The third element is political inclusion and exclusion ?

· How are they (you ) politically included or excluded?

· Is there open arms for your involvement? Why or Why not?

And Lastly, Citizenship

  • What does your citizenship mean to you?
  • Do you have citizenship

** Now not all has declined it can be clearly seen that there is more political involvement among 18-24 generation due to a popular site called youtube.com. In this site you can find pages and pages of political views and idea here is one below for example

now what is your view on this?
